Vermont Country Store

Offices, Distribution and Call Center, Retail Store

Summary

Bread Loaf built expansions, renovations, and new construction of various structures on sites in North Clarendon, Manchester and Weston, Vermont for Vermont Country Store. The projects include a retail store, a distribution facility, a call center and a new corporate office building.

Corporate Offices

BLC constructed a two-story wood structure, with Vermont Country Store’s offices in the front and distribution center in the back of the building. Years later, Bread Loaf designed and built an addition to the office building. Vermont Country Store continued to grow, successfully integrating traditional retail and catalogue marketing with internet sales. When the company’s success required more space, Bread Loaf designed and built the company’s new distribution facility in North Clarendon.

Distribution Facility and Call Center

The distribution center takes advantage of natural lighting to brighten the work environment through sloped translucent skylights and high windows. Custom built-in cabinets and millwork contribute to the professional atmosphere. Bread Loaf built the post-tensioned floor system throughout the first floor, material handling equipment, an office furniture system with data cables, and custom-designed lighting controls.

Retail Store

The company’s original Weston, Vermont store was renovated by Bread Loaf in 1989 and again in 1999. The goal of the most recent design was to preserve the small-town, country feel while meeting today’s customer service expectations. Warm hues, natural materials and adaptive reuse of older building components created a casual shopping atmosphere, while modern electrical, plumbing and heating systems assured customer comfort and safety.
